General Tso’s Chicken #Recipe

I saw this recipe while watching The Chew one day. All the ingredients are naturally gluten free so this something everyone can enjoy. I have changed it a bit for my family’s liking so if you want the original recipe please check it out on their web page. This serves 4-6 people

For the sauce:

  • 1 cup cold water
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 4 tsp fresh grated ginger
  • 8 tsp minced garlic
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 6 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp red pepper flakes

For Chicken:

  • 1 lb boneless/skinless chicken breast (cut into 1 inch pieces)
  • 1 lb blanched broccoli
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

For the side Rice

  • Prepare rice (enough for 4-6 people) as directed and blanch the broccoli
  • Begin the sauce by mixing together 2 tbsp cornstarch and 1 cup cold water in a bowl until smooth. Add garlic, ginger, honey, soy sauce and the red pepper flakes. Set aside
you can also add a splash of Rice Wine to the sauce (read labels I found one that contained wheat)
  • In a separate bowl mix together 3 tbsp cornstarch, salt and pepper until combined. Add the chicken and already blanched broccoli and toss until coated.
coated chicken and broccoli
  • Heat 2 tbsp oil in a large non stick skillet. Shake excess coating off the chicken and broccoli and cook until golden
  • Add the sauce mixture and cook until the sauce has thickened

Serve on top of the rice. You can garnish this with some sesame seeds as well.

With the red pepper the original recipe calls for 1 tbsp, I think the 2 tsp add just the right amount of spice. You can add more or less to your family’s liking. This is just what I did to make it to how my family likes it.
