Congratulations to @Scholastic #summerreading

Goal Met!

They did it!!!!!!!!!! I am so glad to announce that Scholastic  has officially passed their goal for the amount of minutes read by kids!

Last year kids read 176,428,473 minutes, setting a World Record! Well half way through the summer they have surpassed that! They are up to 179,502,587 minutes logged! I am so excited to have my kids be a part of this milestone! This is amazing to know kids are reading this much! And I am proud at how my kids are doing!

While it isn’t much- as of today my son has read 340 minutes this summer. For him, that is a lot! My daughter- I hate to say is behind on her reading coming in at 270 total minutes. However, I am glad to say that is not due to TV or electronics. It is purely due to being outdoors so I kind of can’t complain!

7.11 update

Now- this week they raised the challenge on my kids. Instead of only reading like 120 minutes like it was when the summer started they are challenged to read 145 minutes a week. That is only 20 minutes a day! They can easily handle that! My son has read 60 minutes so far this week and we have 2 days left. It will be interesting to see if he catches up during that time. My daughter though has only read about 40 minutes. I hope I can get her excited about reading like my son!

Are your kids signed up for the Summer Reading Challenge with Scholastic? If so I would love to hear how they are doing!

~I received a thank you gift from Scholastic for promoting their Summer Reading Challenge. No other form of compensation was exchanged. Regardless the above thoughts are my own and honest opinion. ~

I am so glad people are participating too! Reading is so important to little kids! Not only is it necessary for life skills but it helps their imagination grow and their creative thinking.
