My son has recently fallen in love with a series that I never would of thought he would be into! See, Little Man is a police, mechanic, science person. But the books that will have him drop everything to read is far from any of those! So I would like to introduce you to the The Puppy Place: Muttley written by Ellen Miles.
About the Author:
Ellen Miles writes about the different personalities of Dogs. She is author to more the 30 books such as The Puppy Place, Taylor Made Tales and The Pied Piper and other scholastic classics. When Ellen isn’t writing she outdoors either walking, biking, skiing, or swimming. Ellen loves to cook and explore her state of Vermont.
About the Book:
The Puppy Place: Muttley follows Charles & Lizzie Peterson and the love for puppies. They foster dogs until they can find the perfect forever home. Here is a bit more from the book:
“When Lizzie meets Muttle at Caring Paws, she doesn’t feel her usual excitement about the puppy. The little mutt prefers to spend all of his time sleeping. But the Petersons quickly learn that this heoric dog always comes through when he is needed the most.”
One thing I like about this book is that it isn’t just about the dogs. It puts the kids in different social situations and help them through it. I think it is great how it shows character building in kids as they grow up. My son loves that Charles is his age and in the book series was a Wolf Cub Scout just like he is. His favorite part of reading about Muttley is when he saves the Petersons. How does he save them? Well read it and find out! At the end of the book there is a short little page that tells about the real dog that inspired that particular story so it is fun to read those bios as well!
This book is really great for 2nd & 3rd graders. It is a short chapter book with about 10 chapters and no pictures. My daughter is also enjoying it and she just got out of 1st so if you have one younger who is able to read it I recommend you give them a try.
