I am a bit behind on posting this. OK so a little over a month behind since I did make these for Christmas gifts for my family. But I loved how these turn out and plan on making a batch for myself.
This year I wanted to get my siblings and cousin something. But with our high utility bill I had to be frugal. Let me start by saying, I am NOT a crafty person. Really I am not. I am one of those people that will land on a Pinterest Fail page. But when googling sugar scrubs, I thought even I could pull this one off!
This was actually really easy! I will give you two “recipes”. One Will be for a Pumpkin Spice sugar scrub and the other will be a base for any essential oil. I tried using vegetable oil as suggested on numerous sites, they also say you can use olive oil. I found the consistency of coconut oil was best though!
First a base recipe. All you do is take 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup coconut oil, mix it together (I find using your hands and “kneading” it works best) once it is a consistency of a lotion (maybe thicker) you add your favorite essential oil! In mine I used Peppermint in a few, Lavender in a few others, and citrus in one.
Next the Pumpkin Spice. This one has a bit more involved to it but it still really easy-
What you need:
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 2+ tbsp pumpkin spice
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
Mix all ingredients in a bowl until the mixture is smooth. That is it! You may need a bit more cinnamon and pumpkin spice depending on how strong you like the smell, and honestly you may need a bit more coconut oil. It needs to be almost as thick as lotion..
Once you are done just put it in a jar. You can decorate it with some simple scrapbook paper glued onto the lid and some string. I had some extra citrus sugar scrub so I thought I would try it myself. It was amazing! The scent woke me up in the mornings. And the coconut oil left my legs smooth and they didn’t dry out like they usually do! I am actually about to make more just for myself!
What is your favorite scent for a body sugar scrub?
