Showing the love with Wilton Armetale #Recipe #Review

003

This Valentine’s Day I was wanting to do a special recipe for you guys. But I will be honest- the stress of my job had me in a rut! I just could not think of one. Then I was asked to participate in a Valentine’s promotion! I love a cooking challenge! The only challenge though was what ever I made could not be a box mix- and it had to be made in this beautiful dish!

First some about this dish! This is the Wilton Armetale Flutes & Pearls Heart Dish. It is in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Wilton Armetale. And isn’t it beautiful! I absolutely love this versatile dish. And when I say versatile I mean this is safe to go from Freezer, to oven to fridge. Not only that but it can also go on the grill! It makes a great serving dish- and as you can see- a unique pie dish. Now the only thing about this is, they are not dishwasher safe. But I am spoiled and hate washing dishes by hand. But this dish is worth that sacrifice.

Now when I first got this dish I could not think of what to make with it. I was stumped. What dish could I do that would be good in this. Then I remembered this delicious strawberry pie that someone made for my family when we first moved. I knew that had to be what to make! And it is easy! The best part is, if you are not one of my Gluten Free followers, you can easily make this with regular graham cracker crust. For my gluten free people- use Kinnikinnik graham crackers or you can use a premade Mi-Del crust. Here is how it is made:

What you need for the Crust:

  • 6 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups finely crushed graham crackers
  • 1/4 cup sugar

For the filling:

  • 1 pkg of Strawberry Jello
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 quart of fresh strawberries sliced

Here are the steps:

For the crust- Mix graham crackers, butter and sugar in a bowl

Spread crust into desired pan- (can be standard pie pan) and place in fridge to cool while you prepare the rest of the pie.

In a saucepan mix together 1 1/2 cups of water, 3/4 cup of sugar and 2 tbsp of cornstarch. Place over a medium heat. Stir frequently and bring to a light boil. Reduce heat and boil for about 2 minutes to thicken.

Once the water and sugar mixture is thickened, remove from heat and add in Jello stirring until dissolved. Set aside to cool for about 10 minutes.

While the sauce is cooling, slice the strawberries if not already done, add them to the pie crust.

When the 10 minutes is up pour the sauce mixture over the strawberries. Be careful not to over flow it!

Place in the fridge and chill for at least 8 hours. Serve cold with some whip cream

And that is it! Simple quick and easy. Prepare the day before and serve at what ever event you are preparing it for! Now be careful when pouring the sauce part in. I may have slightly had to many strawberries and it overflowed spilling all over the counter! But hey that is the fun of cooking right?!?!?!  Below you will find the printable version of this recipe. This dish would be great for summer picnics, and I can see using this with other fruits like blueberry, cherry, raspberries or even mixed fruit with corresponding jello’s. A versatile pie for a versatile dish!

~Enjoy!~
