Happy Summertime! I am so glad we are finally out of school for the summer and can not wait to explore, create, and have fun!
One of the things we are working on this summer is being resourceful with the items we use. I am trying to teach my kids how to respect the world around them as God created it. So when asked if I could review Disney Go Green: A Family Guide to a Sustainable Lifestyle featuring my favorite- Mickey Mouse- I could not pass it up!
About the Book:
This book teaches us about recycling and sustainability. Here is a little snip it-
“This first Go Green book is for everyone whether they are new to the concept of sustainability or someone who’s lifestyle is green. The books three main focal points are; explaining sustainability in a simple and fun way, putting the concept into perspective for children and families and to show easy and fun steps to take in the green direction. All through the book are tips and fun facts connected to sustainability and the reader will find that not all is lost and a few easy steps will take the family in a new direction. “
Now Reading through this book you will find really fun ways to use what you have around you and why it is important. My daughter loved reading this as it is around her age level. One thing that was in there was using the earth to make your own watercolors. Either by using plants such as beets, or using the different types of soil. This is one thing I hope to try this summer with them. The other thing we have already started doing is recycling. But we go further- We are going to be raising our own chickens soon- so we plan on reusing egg crates for the eggs. I also want to take some 2 liter bottles and make some hanging lettuce pots with them (a friend of mine did this and so I was inspired- I mean who wouldn’t want fresh lettuce year round?!). And we have a few other ideas planned through out the summer.
