A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes- Planning the Dream

One of our dreams is to take our kids to Disney. My daughter wants to go see “Cinderella’s home”, my son wants to go see McQueen and Woody. The Popo and I just want to see their faces light up. One of my better memories growing up was going to Disney. I wanted to make sure though that my kids were A) old enough to cherish that memory and B) Tall enough to ride everything they wanted. We took a big trip last year to the east coast so I thought maybe our next big trip could be Disney.

Then I was given a challange. It is an Orlando Vacation Challenge sponsored by Orlando Vacation. I am so glad I took this challenge because I have learned so much and now I know what to expect! For one- Sea World now has Aquatica which is like a giant water park where you can do things like a “Lazy River” except it is under water so you can see the fish, or a Dolphin Plung where you go down a water slide that will take you under water to see dolphins! There is so much to choose. So now the problem of finding out what to do and for how long. So I started my search on Orlando Vacation with the hotel.

Since we are not that picky on where we sleep I went with a simple Hawthorn Suits by Wyndham. The selling point on this was the price $89 a night for a total of $534 for 6 nights. The other part was that it had free breakfast, full kitchen, and kids under 17 stay free. They also offer free shuttle services to the parks and literally a block away from Sea World!

Then the task of figuring which parks and how long. I went with the Disney 3 Day pass which gave me a bonus of an extra day. This should give us plenty of time to visit Magic Kingdom, Epcot and MGM. Then we decided to spend a day at Universal Studios and got access to Universal Studio Island of Adventure which has even more rides. Last but not least I went with a simple Day pass to Sea World.

Yep you see that right: $2497! That is all! I figured it would cost us around 5K but $2400 for a family of 4 to spend a week of fun and dreams?!?! That can’t be true. Let’s check out other sites.

I first checked Expedia and found my hotel. It was more expensive at $569.64 for 6 nights. To get the same tickets and everything the total came to $2921.58! I would save $424.58 going through Orlando Vacation! Maybe I did something wrong?

Lets go to Orbitz. Same hotel was MORE. It came to $129/night for a total of $774! The tickets were comparable but it came up to $2736. That is $239 more then Orlando Vacation!  Surely going to the Disney Website directly would get me a better deal right? WRONG! I couldn’t even find a hotel to stay in! For the dates I selected, I stopped clicking “Check availability” at the $196/night hotels! So I didn’t even go further on that one!

I was amazed at how much different the pricing was. Just goes to show how doing your research can save you a TON of money! I am now even more inspired to take my kids to Orlando. I would love to do it this year but we need a break from our big vacation last summer so maybe next year. Regardless I know where I am going to be planning my trip when we get to that point!

What would your dream trip to Disney look like?

Disney 2014 at a Glance!

Ok- odd little fact about me: I am just slightly a Disney fanatic. Put me into a game of Disney Scene It or Disney Headbandz and I can get just about everything right. My cousins laugh at me because as an almost 33 year old I can qoute just about every Disney movie out there (ok so only the cartoon type ones and a few non cartoon ones). And I was doing this before having kids. Pathetic I know.

So now you are asking: Why is she telling me this? Well I just received the list of Disney movies being release this year! So with out further adieu here they are!

Opening February 28th from Touchstone Pictures/Studio Ghibli is The Wind Rises. It is about a character name Jiro who dreams of flying and designing beautiful airplanes. Unable to become a pilot Jiro joins a Japanese engineering company in 1927 and becomes the worlds most accomplished airplane designer. You can find the trailer HERE

Then on March 14th you can check out DreamWorks  Need for Speed. This is about a street race straight from prison. He was framed by a wealthy business associate, so he joins a cross country race to see revenge. Upon hearing this, his ex-partner places a bounty on him before the race begins. Check out the trailer for HERE!

And shortly after that our beloved Muppets take the stage on March 21st with Muppets Most Wanted.  This time the gang goes global! Selling out in theaters in places like Berlin, Dublin, and London does mean this will be an easy trip. The mayhem follows them overseas as they find themselves unknowingly entangled with a international crime caper. Check out the trailer for it HERE– it looks hilarious!

Other  movies include-

April 4th- Captain America: The Winter Soldier (trailer is HERE)- Captain America is trying to adjust to modern times but finds himself called back to duty to help fellow SHIELD agents.

~I was sent a press release with the above information. I was not compensated for this post in anyway. I was simply offered the chance to give you guys a sneak peak at the movies to come!~

Shake it Up with Disney ~Review

My kids love to watch Disney on raining days. Can’t say I don’t blame them as I grew up on Disney and well- who hasn’t? They shows are changing and appealing to today kids and their latest show “Shake it Up” is not any different.

Shake it Up features Bella Thorne and Zendaya (who was recently seen on Dancing with the Stars). The show is about two friends CeCe (Bella Thorne) and Rocky (Zendaya). Together they dream on becoming professional dancers and then land roles as back up dancers on a popular teen dance show called “Shake it Up, Chicago”.

In celebration of the 3rd season they have released Shake it Up I <3 Dance featuring 12 hits from that season. The songs are done by Bella and Zendaya and feature fellow Disney Stars such as Selena Gomez, Bridgit Mendler, Roshon Fegan, and Carolina Sunshine and others.

This CD is really good to listen to. I love music that gets you up and moving with your kids. It also helps while cleaning to have something up beat playing. The kids love it and have fun just dancing around acting goofy. Now my confession time- I was a club kid. So I love the dance techno type music. I love dancing so even as an adult I enjoyed this CD.

Shake it Up can be seen on Disney in the time slots for kids ages 2-11 and 6-11. You can download this sound track for $9.99 on iTunes or

Learn more and see a sneak peak at their song “This is My Dance Floor” on Disney Music. Then be sure to follow Disney Music on Facebook and Twitter for any new music and soundtracks!

~I received the above product in order to facilitate a review. No other form of compensation was exchanged. Regardless the above thoughts are my own and honest opinions!~

Disney Dreamers Academy with Espacularaiesa and #DDA2013

Disney Dreamers

Lately I have been sharing on Facebook about an adventure that fellow Pitch List blogger Espacularaiesa has been on. Well part of those adventures was with the Disney Dreamers Academy! It sounds like she had a lot of fun and I would love to go to this one of these days! Below you will find her story:

Disney Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey and Essence’ Magazine motivates teens to achieve their own particular goals and encourage them on a path to success. Students are involved with many workshops that present the tools they will need to turn dreams into reality.

In a robust four-day series of events, the Dreamers engage in a wide range of experiences while working hand in hand with community and industry leaders, Disney Cast Members and some of today’s top celebrities. Dreamers not only learn how to motivate themselves, but also how to inspire their friends, families and communities.

Disney Dreamers Academy 2013 can not be summed up in one post or theme, but if I have to say a short description of this event then I will use this powerful quote… “Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers, and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see greatness within you, even when you don’t see it in yourself.”

More than 5,000 teens across the country applied for the 2013 Disney Dreamers Academy. Only 100 were chosen to attend. They are chosen based on their qualities as a leader, or because they inspire others by giving back and volunteering in their own communities. Many show great courage by overcoming incredible odds in their home lives, yet they keep their eyes on their dreams.

A Big Welcome to 2013 Disney Dreamers Academy

Dreamers were welcomed by Steve Harvey, Mikki Taylor (Essence Magazine), Tracy D. Powell (Disney’s Executive Champion for DDA), Meg Crofton (President Walt Disney Parks and Resorts) and Yolanda Adams (Gospel Star).

Conversations with Terrance Jenkins (Actor and News Host), Lance Gross(Actor), James Pickens, Jr.( Actor, Grey’s Anatomy), Lamman Rucker (Actor), Kellie Wells(Olympic Track and Field Star), and Chandra Wilson (Actress, Grey’s Anatomy).

After the workshops are finished, the ceremonies complete… it is time for the 2013 dreamers to take the tools they gained at the Academy out into their world and start using them to follow their dreams. Congratulations to the unique and talented students and their future endeavors. I expect great things from them.
Congratulations Disney Dreamers Academy Class of 2013
To be invited to this wonderful event has been one of the extreme highlights of my own Dream trip. Disney Dreamers Academy was a fitting addition to Granny’s Sail Away Adventure. I am humbled by the dreams and aspirations of these young people. I have many more stories to share from this event, but for now I will close with…
” A dream is a wish your heart makes! I hope all your heart’s wishes come true!”
