Well another birthday has come and gone. This one was well- shall we say interesting. Birthday’s in our house can be a bit chaotic. With being a half GF and half non gluten free house things can get to be interesting when it comes to baking. This year, for example in order to save money we opted to just do cupcakes, and make regular cupcakes after I baked the gluten free ones. Yep. That was about 4-5 dozen cupcakes that were made. And as if that was not enough- we had two different flavors for the regular cupcakes and of course my daughter had to have two different colors.
The birthday party itself was a blast though. With the help of Oriental Trading Company (sponsor) and their Girl Theme Party Supplies we were able to quickly set up. This year my daughter (who is big on horses) choose to celebrate with the Brave Supplies. We received some invites, some plates and cups and napkins. They make it easy to find matching table cloths and streamers all in one place. My daughter was really thrilled and excited to decorate with the items we received.
Once all the girls were here we started with the fun. At first they just went and played up in my daughters room. But then after a while they came down for a game of Pin the Tail on the Horse! The girls had a blast doing this and it was rather entertaining seeing where the girls ended up! We had so much fun that we ended up playing this twice! Here are some more pictures of the fun we had!
Over all her birthday party was a great time. This was just one of two parties. The following day we had family come out to visit and celebrate with us (which explains all the cupcakes lol). It was a great weekend and I can not believe my little sassy pants is 7 now. How time flies!
Which reminds me- it wont be long before July rolls around- I wonder what I should do for Little Man.
I have always known Oriental Trading Company (sponsor aka OTC) for their craft stuff and their party items. They always have cute activities and toys so we love to shop on their website.
Well over the years they have added items to assist teachers! They have items from games, to things to decorate your classroom and more! This year they added some fun new learning games to their mix. With working at my kid’s school in their Special Education room I thought this would be a great way to use some of these products.
I received 3 activities: Skip Counting Bingo (pictured above), “I have, Who Has” Rhyming Game, Sight Words Write & Wipe Cards, and some Chalkboard Paint.
I gave the rhyming game to the Kindergarten teachers. This game is very fun to play. You hand out the cards to the kids (each kid getting one card), Then they follow the cards so the first kid will say “I have start what rhymes with cat?” then kid with that card will say “I have hat, what rhymes with plane” and so on until you get to the end. The goal is to help them read and rhyme. The kids have a lot of fun playing this game. They like to see how fast they can go with it. Each time they play it they get better and better. I would recommend this for Kindergarten-1st grade.
The Sight Word Wipe off is great for us to use in our room for extra help. They come with a marker and I think the best part of this is that more then one kid can use it. They have words from “saw” to “example”. My 4th grader who has autism loves to use these cards. She likes to practice her handwriting so this is a great way for her to practice. They have the dotted writing line to really help the kids get the letters how they should go. I think because of the words used that this would be more for 1st or 2nd grade levels.
The Skip Counting Bing is also being used in our Special Ed room for kids who need a little extra help. They come with cards so the teacher can write on the board 80,___,84 then the students can try to find the correct answer on their Bingo Card. They have cards for 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. This is prefect for 2nd and 3rd grade students. We haven’t had a chance to use them yet but I can not wait to.
Last but not least they have added Chalkboard pant. You can get it in either green or black. I received a couple jars of the green chalkboard paint. I have not had a chance to use this one either but I do have plans for it! I bought a table at an auction for 50 cents. I am going to be sanding it down and repainting it to use in our craft room and I thought it would be fun to paint the top with chalkboard paint so the kids can doodle on it! I can not wait to do that project. Now to just clone myself so I have time too!
If you are a teacher or even home school be sure to check out Oriental Tradings Teacher Section. They have a lot of fun items for your classroom and they are priced amazingly!
It’s craft time! We love doing crafts in our house. We are always coloring or painting something. Especially on rainy days!
Today I want to introduce you to a wonderful company called Oriental Trading Company (OTC). It started with just a family gift shop owned by Harry Watanabe in 1932. Over the years he built the company up to other Novelties and gifts. By the 50’s it was known as a major supplier to US Carnivals. By the late 70’s when his son, Terry because president and made it the go to party supply place for schools, churches and even homes. Now they offer over 40,000 products through catalogs and online sales making ordering supplies for business, non profit organizations and more easier then before! While the Watanabe’s have since passed the torche the family fun feel has not changed one bit!
Ok so I may be a bit biased because the company was started and still operates in my hometown of Omaha, NE (and I worked there back in the day). But this company has a lot of fun and affordable items! Their catalogs no consists of
- Oriental Trading- Novelties, toys, party supplies and more!
- Terry’s Village- Affordable home decor, accent and holiday accessories
- Crafts: crafts for kids for every occassion!
- Inspirations- Religious themed gifts and novelties
- Party- the name says it all!
- Hands on Fun- For the classroom!
- Scrapbooking- unlimited supplies for your scrapbooking needs
- Sensational Beads- if you are into creating jewelry for beads this would be great for you!
- Wedding- help making your wedding planning a bit easier with decorations and favors for showers, the reception and more!
When I worked there back in high school (I wont give years because that will tell my age) I remember being in awe over all the had to offer and they didn’t have HALF of these catalogs. Terry’s Village was just being released and the products are gorgeous and amazing. Then of course the original OTC catalog was always fun to look at and Inspirations was perfect for churches!
I received some crafts to do and I can not wait to get started on them. I received some mom’s day cards that kids can put hand prints on and some large clothes pin that you can make to look like a flower. But I also received some items for the dad’s. I am thinking my son’s Tiger Cubs may need to work on their Art Belt loop and have some fun!
